Ararat valley is seen in front of Mount Ararat, the most important symbol of national identity and of their ancient homeland , from the Khor Virap monastery next to the border with Turkey, south of Artashat. The volcanic mountain is located in Eastern Turkey and according to legend, the Noah`s ark rested on Mountain Ararat after the Great Flood described in the Bible. Armenians consider themselves direct descendants of Noah, survivor of the Biblical flood.
